Hello Everyone--
So this week we had some interesting events happen.... Don't worry, I am safe here..... BUT.........
Last week our district leader got assaulted. They tried to talk to this guy on the street and he was really rude to them, and so they were trying to leave, and this guy said something again. So my district leaders companion, STUPIDLY said something back that made the guy really mad. Next thing they know, my district leader was punched in the face with a crutch, and his mouth was full of blood. Then they hear like 3 people yell, "I saw everything, I'll be a witness..." Or, "I called the police, they are on their way." Sadly, the man got away before the police got there. And our district leader was taken away in an ambulance and got stitches in half of his upper lip...
Wednesday we took out a girl in our ward, Hannah Jones (who got baptized in Feb.) tracting with us. She LOVED it. She started one of the contacts, and it was so cool. She asked the lady if she wanted to learn more about her Heavenly Father. The lady said, "no, I don't believe in God. I believe in a higher power, but I don't know what it is." Hannah was then able to bear testimony and share her conversion story... and invite her to come to church and try it out. Because of that, the lady asked us for the address of the church, and for our phone number. She said, "Maybe I will actually come and check it out... see what it's like. And who knows, maybe the curiosity will turn into something more." It was SO cool!!!!!! We were so excited, and so was Hannah!
Thursday we got to do service with Sis. Roundtree, then on Friday we taught her. She is really opening up to us... she still hasn't come to church, but we are now starting to get her to share her concerns with us! She also said she doesn't ever want us to leave. We can just do another 2 year mission and stay here, so help her. haha. :)
Friday, there was a stand off with the S.W.A.T teach 3 streets from where we live. They were in the stand off from Thursday night till Friday night. It was right next door to the high school, so they didn't have school on Friday. We still don't really know what was going on. All we know if that the roads were blocked, and the S.W.A.T. team was surrounding a house for like 1 1/2 days. CRAZY!!! (Needless to say, we didn't tract in that area those days... we went far away!"
Saturday we had super crazy weather. in the morning it was in the mid 70's, then it started to sprinkle, then down pour, then hail, then thunder and lightening. Then pour again.... it was crazy. Then it got all warm and sunny again.
Sunday we had a COOL experience at church. So Kelly and her daughter Lauren were there again. After sacrament, Kelly turns to us and was like, "So who do I need to go talk to, to get my baptism all set up and everything." We were like, US!!!! Then before Sunday school started, she said, "Can I get baptized sooner than June 17th? I want to get baptized sooner." We were like, "Yes you can, we just have to teach you everything first, then you can. So we can start teaching you more each week, and then move it up." She was like, "Well I guess I can just stick with the date you had picked." We were SO excited!!! We are trying to figure out how we can get everything taught, with enough time for her to get a testimony, and be able to live everything, so that we can move it up. So you all can pray for Kelly!!! That would be awesome. Lauren loved primary again this week. Her teacher had been telling us that she had been asking so many great questions. We are also trying to figure out how we can start teaching her too, since she is only with Kelly on the weekends.... So pray for that too! :)
Then I was able to talk to my family on the phone. That was good!!!!
Things are starting to get rolling! It's fun! Keep writing!!!
love, Sister Rankin
